What Is the Salt Lake Temple Celebration?

The Salt Lake Temple Celebration is a worldwide effort that marks the reopening of the Salt Lake Temple and the joy we find in Jesus Christ. While the event is rooted in a historic moment for this temple, the celebration reaches far beyond Salt Lake City. It invites God’s children everywhere to learn about temples, feel the Savior’s love, and participate in virtual experiences, local events, or in-person visits.

The celebration provides opportunities to strengthen testimonies, build relationships with friends of the Church, and help all people understand the purpose of temples. It is a unified, global invitation to rejoice in Christ.

Objectives of the Salt Lake Temple Celebration

Salt Lake Temple Celebration efforts—from Church headquarters to local neighborhood events—share these objectives:

  1. Invite people to the temple. Help all people feel welcome to see and learn about temples through digital and in-person experiences.
  2. Share simple, foundational messages about:
    • Jesus Christ as our Savior
    • Covenants that connect us to God and each other
    • The central place of families in God’s plan
    • God’s plan of happiness and the purpose it gives our lives
  3. Strengthen member testimonies, especially those of youth and young adults.
  4. Strengthen community relationships between the Church and civic leaders, interfaith partners, and other friends.
  5. Increase understanding of the Church by helping guests learn about the Savior, temples, and what Latter-day Saints believe.
