2.2 Knowing What to Say
Sometimes members may feel uncomfortable inviting friends and neighbors because they don’t know what to say! You can help prepare members of your ward or stake so they can explain what the Salt Lake Temple Celebration is and why it is important to them.
Encourage members to have simple, personal conversations about the temple and their faith in Jesus Christ. Point them to the resources specifically designed for them in the Salt Lake Temple Celebration section of the Gospel Library.
As you help members prepare to share what they feel, the following principles can help the focus remain on the Savior. These guidelines can help people find a way of inviting that is both welcoming and inspiring.
A Focus on Jesus Christ
At the center of this celebration is our belief in Jesus Christ—whose life, love, and teachings shape how we live and serve. Although the rededication of the Salt Lake Temple is the occasion, its deeper purpose is to turn our hearts to the Savior. All messaging about the temple should point to Him and help others feel God’s love.
Examples of Christ-Focused Messaging
The following examples show how a variety of temple topics can focus on the Savior:
- Jesus Christ. We call temples “houses of the Lord” because they are built for and dedicated to the Savior, Jesus Christ.
- Temples. All things in the temple—from architecture to sacred ordinances—point to Jesus Christ. Everything about the temple is a reminder of the Savior and His love for us.
- Covenants. In the temple, people make sacred promises—called covenants—to do their best to follow the example of Jesus Christ and become more like Him.
- Sealing families for eternity. The temple is the place where families can be sealed, or connected, together, so that they can be reunited with Heavenly Father, with Jesus Christ, and with each other for eternity.

The Celebration Centers on Jesus Christ
The Salt Lake Temple Celebration is an invitation to rejoice in Jesus Christ. His teachings and love shape every part of how we will celebrate.
What Happens During the Celebration?
From April 5, 2027 through October 1, 2027, celebration events will take place around the world. Salt Lake City will host in-person visitors and people around the world can join from home or with their local congregations to enjoy virtual tours, broadcasts, special productions, and more.
The Purpose of Temples
The purpose of temples is to help people learn of Jesus Christ, feel His love, and make covenants that help them and their families draw closer to God.
The Celebration Is for God’s Children Everywhere
This is a worldwide celebration, not limited to Salt Lake City. Virtual experiences and neighborhood events make it possible for everyone across the globe to participate in meaningful ways.
The Temple Is a House of Worship and Service
In temples, members make sacred promises, called covenants, to follow Jesus Christ and pattern their lives after His example. These commitments strengthen individuals, families, and communities.
The Salt Lake Temple Holds Historic and Global Significance
The Salt Lake Temple is a symbol of faith and perseverance for Latter-day Saints around the world. Its renovation preserves a sacred landmark while strengthening it for future generations.
